ABOUT

                  The Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering was established in the year 2000 and the first batch students graduated in the year 2003. It offers 3 year Diploma programme in INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL ENGINEERING. Nearly 27 students are admitted each year in Diploma programme through Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC), Puducherry.  An additional 20% of students are admitted in Lateral Entry mode in 2nd year of the course.

             The curriculum is being updated regularly with inputs from industries and reputed educational institutions. The department with its state of the art laboratories, as well as young and dynamic faculty is involved in providing quality education.

         The study mainly focuses on the design and configuration of the automated systems. Instrumentation engineers usually work in chemical or manufacturing industries with the aim of improving productivity, reliability and stability of the automated systems.

NATURE OF WORK OF INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER

  • Designing and developing new control systems 

  • Maintaining and modifying existing systems 

  • Managing operations 

  • Working collaboratively with design engineers,
    operation engineers, purchasers and other internal staff 

  • Contacting clients, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities 

  • Project management within cost and time constrained environments 

  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving

  • Ensure that the instruments comply with health and safety regulations

  • Ensure that quality standards are maintained

  • Provide consultancy support  

  • Developing new business proposals

CURRENT WORKING FIELDS

  • Instrumentation Engineer / Process Engineer in heavy industries such as thermal power stations, steel plants, refineries, cement and fertilizer plants etc. 

  • Design and product development Engineer in companies that manufactures specialized instruments such as actuators, measuring gauges, etc [Electronic Design & Manufacturing] 

  • Industrial automation / Robotic Engineer in any manufacturing or food processing industry which run in an automated setup. 

  • Maintenance & Repair Engineer for Bio-Medical instruments.

FACILITIES

  • The department has a Process control Lab for practical learning of various Process used in industries.

  • Electronics Lab for practical learning of Basic Analog & Digital Electronics Circuitry.

  • Measurements and Instrumentation Lab for understanding the working of instrumentation devices.

  • Software Lab for learning the basics of  software Applications like MATLAB, LABVIEW, P&ID CAD, PLC,  etc.

  • A Microcontroller Lab for developing the ability to write programs and interface various devices with Microcontroller.

  • Support is provided to the students for doing their final year project in current and innovative topics.
